Man Allegedly Sets Off Small Bomb Outside Ariz. Police Station

Benson police arrested a 47-year-old man who is accused of setting off a small explosive outside the department, possibly as retaliation for a recent arrest.

A 47-year-old man is accused of setting off a small bomb outside an Arizona police station Tuesday.

The incident happened just after 2 p.m. when William Stephen Bagger allegedly placed an explosive made of a heating pack in a bottle containing a liquid, KVOA-TV reports. A station security captured footage of Bagger's car, and police found him at a Walmart.

“We observed the individual inside a Walmart, waited for him to come outside of Walmart to avoid a disturbance in the business, the individual was taken into custody without incident," said Chief Greg Volker.

Bagger was arrested and charged with setting off an explosive and engaging in an act of terrorism.

No one was injured in the explosion, and the blast did little damage. Although investigators are still trying to determine if Bagger set off the bomb as retaliation for a recent arrest, Volker believes that the suspect was trying to intimidate police as opposed to causing destruction.

"I think he wanted to give us the wow factor and cause a little fear," he said.
